PRIVATE Magazine n.54 Lost- featuring Stephen Dupont's work from SING- SING

PRIVATE Magazine, the International Review of Photographs, is a quarterly publication based in France since 1992.

Its aim is to 'promote photographers who reorganise our chaotic world in images, while at the same time assigning meaning.'

Issue number 54 Lost, in which Stephen Dupont's work from Sing- Sing in Papua New Guinea is featured, focuses on photographers who use their medium in conceptual, surreal and anthropological modes to 'narrate inner landscapes of human beings'. 

Stephen's work is featured alongside photographers such as Roger Balen and Carolyn Drake, amongst other intriguing artists.

Artist's Books: Books by Artists- at the Boston Athenaeum October 12, 2011 until March 3, 2012 with the Work of Stephen Dupont

The Boston Athenauem is one of the most distinguised and oldest independent libraries and cultural establishments in The States, and the institution plays host to a number of the most successful and innotive artist's books being produced today.

Its collection, including Stephen Dupont's Axe Me Biggie Concertina Book  will be on display in an exhibition at the Athenauem in Boston from October 12 2011 until March 3 2012.

The exhibition includes work by artists such as Russell Maret, Laura Davidson, Ryoko Adachi, Stephen Dupont, Harriet Bart, Xu Bing, Iliazd, and around another two dozen works of which some have not been previously exhibited.

Reframe Newcastle Project and Masterclass with Stephen Dupont- October 12 to October 11

Rollingball Productions and Newcastle City Council are heading a project to reframe Newcastle and present it to the public in a different light; defining the hidden aspects of the city and highlighting its character.

An innovative project that whilst producing new imagery of the city, nutures the arts and formation of documentary photography through a seven day intensive masterclass run by Stephen Dupont who was commisioned to lead the project.

In these seven days Stephen is working with eight young emerging local photographers, who were selected from fifty applicants, to aid their formation and editing, aiming to produce redefining images of the city.

If you're in Newcastle this month the evolving body of work will be on show at The Roost Creative Gallery at 593 Hunter Street, from 6pm this Monday October 10 and again from 11am to 4pm on October 15 and 16.

TIME Lightbox- Afghanistan: The Photographs That Moved Them Most (Featuring: Stephen Dupont)

Stephen Dupont's photograph of the Taliban Burning has been featured in TIME MAGAZINE'S Lightbox in a featured article on the most moving photos captured in Afghanistan since the war began.

The article marks the 10th Anniversary of the start of the war; TIME asked 40 renowned photographers to reflect on their experiences covering the conflict and to reflect on the photographs that moved them the most.

Alongside the work of Stephen are other shots from renowned photographers such as James Nachtwey, Paolo Pellegrin, Ron Haviv, Seamus Murphy, Christopher Anderson, Eric Bouvet, Thomas Dworzak, amongst many others.

Generation AK Screening - Delhi Photo Festival October 15 - 28, 2011

Stephen's Generation AK Multimedia Film will be screening at the Delhi Photo Festival in India this month from October 15- 28. 
The Delhi Photo Festival is a biennial event and is a production of the Indian Habitat Centre and Nazar Foundation aimed at bringing photography to the open public space; creating an awareness and encouraging enthusiasm of the photographic arts.

Tanks Art Centre Cairns- War Exhibition 14 October- 16 November with Stephen Dupont

WAR an exhibition from the ACP feauturing documentary photographers covering periods of war from Vietnam to present day conflicts in Afghanistan opens on October 14 at The Tanks Art Centre in Cairns. The exhibition features work from Stephen Dupont, Sean Flynn, Jack Picone,Tim Page, David Dare Parker, Ben Bohane, Michael Coyne and Ashley Gilbertson.

Kathmandu Workshop Highlights

 It is with great pleasure to showcase some of the student's photographs that are my personal favourites.

The workshop held at the Vajra Hotel in Kathmandu this month was a big success I believe. Aside from being lots of fun I was both surprised and inspired to see each student produce original and moving bodies of work. Over half the class were repeat workshop students that I have been privy to watch as their talents evolved over the years. Congratulations to all of you.

Kevin Cooper, your series was utterly shocking and powerful, you captured the sadness and brutality of your elderly home with great respect to the subjects without holding back your obvious talents as a photographer.

Susie Hagon, who always surprises me with her multi shooting on various formats and cameras, tackled a very sensitive and personal journey into the world of transvestitism & cross gender politics with slick grace and composure.

Kelly Mac covered the ultimate story of humanity by story telling the issues of birth and pregnancy in the third world. Your pictures are so incredibly strong and I look forward to seeing more of your future work as it unfolds.

Kellie Lafranchi showed wonderful moments of Kathmandu street life, capturing the classic essence and mood of street photography at its best.

Matt Dole surprised me immensely with his work inside an Indian displacement camp, photographed in stark B&W you obviously felt the rhythm of the scenes before you and captured them beautifully.

Cim Sears followed the streetlife of children with wonderful movement and a freedom of photographic style. You made some very good pictures and captured what it means to be a child in today's Nepal.

Nadia Janis using the new Leica M9 with 50mm lens went right inside the life of bus drivers and public transport passengers. Shot in gritty B&W you made truly poetic pictures that made me feel like I was riding the wave of crowded mini buses and rain soaked streets of protest.

Kate Walton picking up the camera only recently challenged herself immensely by getting inside the underbelly of cheap labor and shoe manufacturing along Kathmnadu's side streets. You made some really great moments and your vision improved ten fold throughout the week, I look forward to seeing future work of yours and I hope to see the "journey of the shoe"...one day!

Narendra Mainali showed us the life before death along Pashupathinath temple complex and burning ghats. Your pictures of the the sick waiting to die and the emotion of the families gathered before them was truly inspiring, dark and important.

Lastly Bikash, I see a great future for you in the world of photography. You capture moments I would be proud to have in my arhcive. The photo of the prostitutes watching TV is perhaps my favorite picture from the workshop.

Last thursday evening the Meyer Gallery in Sydney hosted the official book launch for the Australian Photography and Gallery Compendium. An annual publication, the compendium harbors the work of diverse artists who exhibited Australia wide in that year.

Canon EOS World Stand Talk- PMA Imaging and Entertainment Expo 2011

Here is a photo from Stephen's talk last saturday at the PMA Expo, for Canon. Each talk lasted around thirty minutes. Stephen discussed photography in general, his body of work and experience in Afghanistan, and about the series Seconds With... Episode one released by Canon on the EOS Professional website. 
The talk concluded with a brief analysis of the photo that features in Seconds with Stephen Dupont and the story behind it. 
The PMA Expo was bustling and there was a good turn out of people present during discussions. A great opportunity to listen to these photographers talk first hand about their work and later have the opportunity to ask questions in person.

PMA Imaging & Entertainment Expo 2011 and Canon's 'Seconds with Stephen Dupont'

Tomorrow Stephen will be speaking at the PMA 2011 Imaging & Entertainment Expo in Sydney at the Convention & Exhibition Centre in Darling Harbour. The event covers three days and Saturday it will be open to amateurs, enthusiasts and the general public from 10.00am to 5pm and also Sunday from 10.00am to 5pm.
Stephen will be discussing his part in Canon's new photography series "Seconds With" that has been launched on their new EOS Professional website. The series focuses on leading professional photographers dissecting their work and talking about the power of photography and what it means to be a pro.
The event will take place in the Canon 'World of EOS' stand between 2pm and 4pm tomorrow June 25.
Stephen will be talking at 3pm.
